Over 500 people attended a presentation dinner on
Saturday 5th March in the O'Reilly Hall at UCD honouring Dr George
Sigerson and the Ulster Bank Sigerson Cup Team of the Century.
The address was given by Her Excellency, Mary McAleese, President
of Ireland.
St Mary’s has been participating in the competition since
1988 and it is a tremendous achievement that one former player
was named on the Team of the Century. It will come as little surprise
that the player concerned is Peter Canavan who attended the College
from 1990 to 1994. Peter is one of the "Greats" of Gaelic
Games. Former Head of Physical Education, Jim McKeever, and the
College Principal attended the presentation dinner as both were
at the team management helm when St Mary’s won the Sigerson
Cup in 1989. |
