Congo Information Day at St Mary's

13 May 2011

On Tuesday 10th May, representatives from the Congolese community in Ireland were in the College to highlight the problems that are currently facing the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Its recent wars have cost 5 million lives in the past 15 years and the situation is considered one of the most pressing humanitarian issues in the world today.

Sponsored by the Students’ Union, the event was organised by representatives of the lobby group Congo’s Tears. Their members provided samples of Congolese national cuisine, played ethnic music, had an information stall, profiled Congolese traditional dress, and the event concluded with a talk on the current situation in the Congo.
