The theme of the conference “Engaging Pupils in STEM – Sharing Good Practice” fitted in well with the College policy of promoting STEM. Participants learned about a range of developments in STEM education with speakers from as far afield as Cornwall and Dundee. The keynote address was given by Dr Hugh Cormican, a co-founder and former director of Andor Technology, one of the most successfully high-tech companies in the local economy. In his address Dr Cormican stressed the importance of promoting STEM to young people and commended the work of educationalists in Northern Ireland. After the conference the ASE committee expressed their thanks to the College for making the event such a great success and expressed their hope of continuing the successful link with the College.
STEM Science Education Conference11 June 2013 St Mary’s hosted the Association of Science Education (ASE) biennial regional conference on Friday, 7 June, 2013. With nearly two hundred participants, from a range of educational sectors, including primary and post-primary schools, ELBs and HEIs, and over thirty different seminars and workshops, this was one of the biggest education conferences held this year in Northern Ireland. ASE held their last biennial conference in the College and due to its success they decided to return to the College for this year’s conference.
