SafeTALK Training Programme

14 November 2014

On Wednesday, 12 November the CLEAR Project, in partnership with St Mary’s University College, organised a SafeTALK training programme which was delivered to both student and staff members of the College.

The course provided participants with four basic steps on how to recognise individuals who may have thoughts of suicide and how to connect them with suicide helping resources. During the course, students and staff were made aware that most people with thoughts of suicide invite help. Often these opportunities are missed, dismissed or avoided – leaving people more alone and at greater risk. This training enabled participants to become more prepared to help by using TALK (Tell, Ask, Listen and Keepsafe) to identify and engage people with thoughts of suicide and to connect them with further help and care.
