12 March 2015

The Minister for Culture Arts and Leisure, Carúl Ní Chuilín, launched a new initiative Club Leabhar Líofa in Stormont on Wednesday, 4 March 2015. The new initiative aims to promote the reading of Irish language texts to improve the fluency of Irish speakers.

The translation of John Boyne’s The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by Padaí de Bléine and the translation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island by Darach Ó Scolaí were chosen to launch the initiative. Padaí and Darach both talked about their experiences of translating books and read extracts from their respective translations to the audience. Local politicians, Irish-medium schoolchildren and teachers attended the event.
