Expanding Horizons in Science Education


St Mary’s University College hosted a conference on Friday, 5 June 2015, in conjunction with the Association for Science Education (NI) involving over 250 delegates from Northern Ireland and England.

Basil McCrea MLA also participated in the conference, which included presentations from the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) as well as primary and post-primary teachers. Representatives from the Department of Education also attended.

The keynote speech was delivered by Tim Harrison, Vice President of ALMAC Discovery. The company is focussed exclusively on the discovery and development of innovative approaches to the treatment of cancer and associated conditions. Mr Harrison also holds the McClay Chair of Medicinal Chemistry at Queen’s University Belfast and is author or inventor of over 130 papers and patents. He is a key driver for the STEM agenda in the region.
