The St Mary's University College Belfast MEd Programme recently celebrated the graduation of the first cohort of Irish-medium teachers to complete the new, specialist option in Irish and Irish-medium education. St Mary’s University College was the first higher education institution to provide Irish-medium initial teacher education courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level in September 1996. This new, Irish-medium Masters in Education, Specialist Irish-medium Option was initiated in 2010 and marks another successful step for the College as a pioneer in teacher education provision through the medium of Irish on an all-island basis, and the MEd Irish-medium option was supported by a Department of Education Bursary Scheme administered by Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta.

Rinneadh ceiliúradh ar na mallaibh ar an bhronnadh céime ar an chéad ghrúpa de mhúinteoirí gaelscoile a chuir roghachlár na Gaeilge agus na Gaelscolaíochta i gcrích ar Chlár MOid Choláiste Ollscoile Naomh Muire, Béal Feirste. Is é Coláiste Ollscoile Naomh Muire an chéad institiúid ardoideachais a sholáthair oideachas tosaigh múinteoirí sa Ghaelscolaiocht ag leibhéal fochéime agus iarchéime ó bhí Meán Fómhair 1996 ann. Cuireadh tús leis an Roghachlár Gaelscolaíochta nua mar chuid den Chéim Mháistreachta san Oideachas, sa bhliain 2010 agus céim rathúil eile atá ann don Choláiste mar cheannródaí i soláthar oideachais mhúinteoirí trí Ghaeilge ar bhonn uileoileáin. Maoiníodh roghachlár na Gaelscolaíochta sa MOid trí Scéim Sparánachtaí na Roinne Oideachais agus is í Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta a riar an scéim.
