Summer Transition School

8 August 2019

St Mary's University College is once again delighted to host the annual West Belfast Partnership Board's (WBPB) Summer Transition School in co-operation with the WBPB and primary and post-primary schools in the west Belfast constituency area.

The West Belfast Partnership Board, funded by the Department of Education and supported by St Mary's University College, will commence their seventh Summer Transition School from Monday, 12 until Thursday, 15 August 2019 and is free of charge to all who attend.

Over 200 primary school pupils who will be starting post-primary school in September will attend the four-day long school and a warm welcome is extended to all the young people who attend and participate in the programme.

The Summer Transition School is delivered by qualified teachers and focuses on Literacy, Numeracy and Personal Development, using books and resources developed by WBPB and local primary and post-primary schools. It has been designed to help smooth the transition from primary school and encourages learning by making it a fun experience, with activities and trips included.

The programme is delivered through the medium of both Irish and English.

The Summer Transition School makes an important contribution to our mission to support young people to achieve their full potential and to aspire to higher education.

This year we are delighted that over twenty-five students from the College will participate in this programme, providing teaching assistance in the classrooms and working with the pupils on a one-to-one basis. Our students are an invaluable resource to our community, bringing enthusiasm, commitment and the most up-to-date teaching approaches in order to help children become the best that they can be.
