Italian Researchers at St Mary's

25 November 2022

During October and November St Mary's hosted two specialist researchers from the University of Naples and the Università Europea di Roma (UER).

Renato Raffaele Amoroso and Mattia Mushera (pictured) were in Belfast to investigate the financial and banking implications of Ireland’s membership of the European Union. Looking at both the North and South of Ireland, they were examining the shifts in policy making and the impact on financial services in the early period of membership, as well as the implementation of European regional development policies and the impact of the outworking of Brexit on banking in particular.

St Mary’s has a long standing partnership with UER, having exchanged students and staff for study, training and research for many years. The University of Naples is a more recent partner, with Dr Gerard McCann from St Mary’s taking up the role of external examiner for PhDs in Economic History and building on research links with this historic Italian institution.
