A St Mary's University College Science Department team has won the Annual Science Quiz organized by the Association for Science Education. The quiz, currently in its third year, took place in the Errigle Inn, Ormeau Road, on Monday 13 March 2006.
The St Mary's team, ‘Big Blue Picasso', comprising Jim Beggs, Colette Murphy, Michael Cassidy, Ivor Hickey, John Sweeney and Dermot Donnelly, competed against ten teams from local schools, colleges, CCEA, ELBs and other educational establishments.
Sitting in third place at the half time interval, St Mary's finished strongly in the final rounds to overtake the cup holders, Royal Belfast Academical Institution, and narrowly win by one point.
