St Mary's in Sigerson Final

Sigerson Cup Final, Portlaoise - 20 February 2019
St Mary’s 1-9 v UCC 0-16

The students from St Mary’s University College and their management team, led by Gavin McGilly, made a valiant bid to win the Sigerson Cup for the third time but ran out of power in the last five minutes to go down by four points to University College Cork (UCC).

The College Principal, Professor Peter Finn, was with the team after the final whistle and witnessed a group who had given their all, mentally and physically exhausted but full of pride. He commended the students and their families who made the long journey to support them.

Former camogie player and College alumna, Fiona Kennedy, posted on Twitter:
"An outstanding team who have honoured a great tradition — the Ranch is a special place where lifelong friendships are made."

How the Cork-based newspaper the Irish Examiner reported on the final.

The emotions of pride at the start and disappointment at the end — but they gave their all.
