Short Description

I am an M-Level associate lecturer for the module Autistic Voice and SEN Practice. I have also taught on two Summer short courses on the new SEN framework for Northern Ireland and Educating pupils with autism: understanding the needs of girls.

I am a full-time senior teacher for learning support (formerly SENCO) in a co-educational grammar school in Belfast and have worked in the field of special education and autism for over twenty years.

My doctorate and specialist areas of interest are in Autistic Girls and the use of creative methodologies in accessing autistic voice.

Current Research

I have completed two significant pieces of research. Missing Voices: The educational experiences of autistic girls has been presented as an exhibition at Queen’s University Belfast, Stormont Assembly and the Belfast International Arts Festival.

Understanding life in lockdown for autistic young people has been published by the Centre for Children’s Rights at Queen’s University Belfast. It has also been presented to the Education Committee of the Northern Irish Assembly, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI)and at the British Psychological Society NI Branch Conference in 2021.
